“CHRIST (Deemed to be University) was established as ‘Christ College’ in 1969. Over the years, it undertook path-breaking initiatives in Indian higher education. With the introduction of innovative and modern curricula, along with an insistence on academic discipline, the institution has been imparting Holistic Education. Moreover, it has consistently adopted global higher education practices, all of which have been made possible through the support of creative and dedicated staff. The University Grants Commission (UGC) of India conferred Autonomy to Christ College in 2004, marking a significant milestone. Subsequently, in 2006, it was identified as an Institution with Potential for Excellence. Another pivotal moment came in 2008, when, under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, the Ministry of Human Resource Development of the Government of India declared the institution a Deemed to be University. This transformation was carried out in the name and style of Christ University.
Remarkably, Christ University was among the first institutions in India to receive accreditation in 1998 by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Government of India. CHRIST (Deemed to be University) takes immense pride in its eco-friendly, serene, and peaceful environment. Moreover, it is deeply committed to upholding a strong values system. In this regard, it places great emphasis on students conducting themselves in a manner that reflects these values, both in their attire and behavior. It is expected that students show respect towards their teachers, warmly greeting them whenever they cross paths on or off the university campus.
In the classroom, students are required to exhibit a show of deference. Upon the teacher’s entrance, students should promptly rise and remain standing until either directed to take their seats or until the teacher is comfortably seated. Even during roll call, each student should stand, responding audibly with their name or register number. Punctuality is paramount, with students expected to be seated in their respective classrooms as soon as the bell tolls. To ensure a conducive learning atmosphere, actions such as loitering in corridors and creating unnecessary noise are strictly prohibited and will be met with appropriate consequences. The university encourages students to make use of the library during their free periods, fostering a scholarly environment. While on campus, specific guidelines are in place.
