What is PUMBA?
PUMBA (Department of Management Sciences, Savitribai Phule Pune University) is one of Maharashtra's oldest and most respected government-affiliated business schools, known for its full-time MBA/MMS programs, strong faculty base and a campus placement record that regularly draws in leading recruiters.
Every year, PUMBA allocates the majority of its seats through the centralized CAP (Centralized Admission Process) round conducted by the State CET Cell, based on MAH-CET / CMAT / CAT scores. A smaller share of seats — the management quota / institute-level quota — is reserved and filled through a separate, institute-level process.

What Does "Management Quota" Mean?
Management quota (also referred to as institute quota or the management-level round) is a category of seats that autonomous and university-affiliated institutes are permitted to fill directly, outside the state's centralized CAP rounds. It exists to give the institute flexibility to admit eligible candidates — including those who could not secure a seat in CAP, out-of-state applicants, or candidates applying after CAP rounds close.
- Merit quota seats are allotted purely through MAH-CET/CMAT/CAT rank via the CAP rounds.
- Management quota seats are filled directly by the institute, based on eligibility criteria, category norms and seat availability, once CAP rounds are exhausted.
- Both routes lead to the same degree, same campus, same faculty and same placement cell — the difference lies only in the admission process followed.

Eligibility Criteria
- A recognised Bachelor's degree (any stream) with the minimum aggregate marks prescribed by the university for the relevant category.

- Category-wise relaxation in eligibility marks as per State Government and university norms (SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwD, etc.).
- Completion of the online CAP registration is generally required even for candidates pursuing the management quota route.
